Canadian standout TJ Grant will make his lightweight debut against Shane Roller on Oct. 1 at UFC on Versus 6 at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. UFC officials on Friday announced the fight had been verbally agreed to.
Grant (16-5) has found the road through the UFC’s welterweight division rather bumpy, alternating wins and losses en route to a 3-3 record during his tenure in the Octagon. He most recently lost a unanimous decision to Ricardo Almeida at UFC 124 last December.
He drops to the lightweight class to challenge Roller (10-4), who has had his own troubles of late. Roller bounced back from a loss to former WEC champion Anthony Pettis with back-to-back victories over Jamie Varner and Thiago Tavares, only to be laid out cold courtesy of Melvin Guillard’s fists at UFC 132 in July.
A UFC bantamweight championship fight between titleholder Dominick Cruz and Demtrious Johnson heads the UFC on Versus 6 fight card. It will air live on the Versus network.
