Matt Mitrione has never been your typical UFC heavyweight, so it’s no surprise that the usual pre-fight trash-talk has been replaced with serenading.
Kicking off Saturday’s UFC on FOX 13 main card (and perhaps flying a bit under the radar) is an intriguing bout between Mitrione (8-3 MMA, 8-3 UFC) and fellow heavyweight Gabriel Gonzaga (16-8 MMA, 11-7 UFC).
The fight airs on FOX from U.S. Airways Center in Phoenix, and it could have some implications in the division. Gonzaga, a former title challenger, is an honorable mention in the USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA heavyweight rankings and just outside the top 15, and Mitrione, who’s registered back-to-back knockouts over Shawn Jordan and Derrick Lewis, hopes to earn come rankings consideration.
Ahead of the network-televised fight, Mitrione offered a tune to his opponent (via Twitter and Instagram).
Move over, Lionel Richie:
While professional cage-fighting is no easy profession, here’s hoping Mitrione keeps his day job.
