Shoulder Injury Sidelines Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson; Rest Required But No Surgery

Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson was forced out of his fight against Nate Marquardt at UFC on Versus 4 due to a shoulder injury suffered in training.

Johnson’s manager Glenn Robinson of Authentic Sports Management confirmed the injury to MMAWeekly.com on Thursday.

The UFC announced that Johnson was forced out of the fight due to injury and that Rick Story would step in to replace ‘Rumble’ on the June 26 card.

According to Robinson, Johnson was rolling on the mat with a teammate when his arm got jammed up into his shoulder. Immediately, Johnson felt the pain and was unable to move his arm much after the initial injury.

Johnson went to the doctor and after undergoing an MRI, physicians revealed no tears or major damage and that he would not have to have surgery to repair anything in his shoulder.

The bad news however is that Johnson only had about 20 to 30% movement in his left arm, and he was forced to call UFC matchmaker Joe Silva and inform him that he’d be unable to fight.

Despite the injury, Johnson did his best to power through and still wanted to fight, but the shoulder limited his range of motion so badly he literally would have been fighting with one arm.

Johnson will rest the arm with no training for the next 2 to 3 weeks and then go back to the doctor to be re-evaluted to see if he can resume his training and then get a new fight.

Robinson says that Johnson is highly motivated and will fight the biggest name possible when he’s healthy and the UFC is ready to put him back to work.
