Score FS 7 Results: Jordan Mein Dominates with First-Round Destruction

The biggest card in the history of The Score Fighting Series (SFS) did not disappoint as fans in Hamilton, Ontario, were treated to a night of scintillating MMA action – including a stunning finale to the main event.

With the main card broadcast live across Canada on The Score Television Network and available in some 40 million homes on AXS TV in the U.S., the event provided the perfect platform for some of the hottest prospects looking to earn themselves a shot at the big time.

And it was an opportunity that Jordan Mein grasped with both hands.

On-loan from Strikeforce, his first-round TKO of UFC veteran Petz was nothing short of jaw-dropping. Mein rained punches, elbows and knees down upon Petz up against the cage before the contest was stopped at 1:29. It was an incredible finish to the evening, although Petz was clearly hugely disappointed with the way it had ended.

Nevertheless, it was a real demonstration of the power and precision that Mein possesses, with the UFC surely in his sights now.

In the co-main event, Jesse Ronson also moved a big step closer to the UFC following his comprehensive win over Ryan Healy. The victory, via unanimous decision, came after three rounds of a master class in striking, with only the resolute chin of Healy ensuring the fight went the distance.

Healy had been left bloodied after the first round, but showed remarkable strength and stamina to stay on his feet in the wake of a barrage of shots by Ronson, who came into the fight 11-2. On this display, Ronson certainly looks the real deal.

There was to be no payback for Will Romero in his hotly anticipated rematch with Tristan Johnson. The judges called the fight in Johnson’s favor (split decision), preventing Romero from making amends for his loss to the Nova Scotian at the first official SFS event in June 2011.

The omens did not look good for Romero as early as the first round, when he was sent crashing to the mat following a combination of punches from Johnson. But he rallied well, with both men willing to stand up and trade blows to the delight of the crowd. However, it was Johnson who had the edge, taking his pro record to 8-3.

Alex Ricci dispatched Keven Morin by unanimous decision. Morin started well, earning the first two takedowns of the fight inside the first round. But Ricci showed his class as the fight went on, potentially swinging the judges’ thoughts with a massive flurry of punches at the end of the third round.

It was Jason Saggo’s birthday, and he celebrated with a win over Iraj Hadin. Hadin looked to have recovered from a shaky first round with a combination of punches and kicks. But Saggo responded by submitting Hadin via rear naked choke with 3:41 on the clock in the second round.

Also winning via second round submission (rear naked choke) was Ryan Dickson, seeing off the challenge Brandt Dewsbery. Dewsbery was forced to defend for much of the first round, but looked to be back on track in the second, pulling off a sweep to take Dickson’s back. However, the comeback was short lived as Dickson scrambled to take Dewsbery’s back in return, ending matters with a rear naked choke two minutes later.

In the preliminary fights, Paul Jalbert kept his local fans happy with a unanimous decision victory over Oliver Vadnais, while Rory McDonell submitted Desmond Green with a vicious armbar in the first round.

Adam Assenza took down Tommy Cote via unanimous decision, while Elias Theodorou made it 6-0 in his professional MMA career with a routine win over Ali Mokdad.
