The UFC’s first trip to Maine next month has its latest addition with a women’s bantamweight bout.
Recent title challenger Sara McMann (7-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) is set to take on promotional newcomer Lauren Murphy (8-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 47. UFC officials announced the new fight on Thursday.
UFC Fight Night 47 takes place Aug. 16 at Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, Maine. The bulk of the card is expected to air on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on UFC Fight Pass. Tickets for the event currently are on sale.
McMann in February challenged champion Ronda Rousey for the women’s bantamweight title at UFC 170, but she was stopped in just 66 seconds with Rousey’s first career stoppage win by knockout. That was the Olympian’s first career loss after starting a perfect 7-0, including a TKO win over Sheila Gaff at UFC 159, her promotional debut.
Murphy will make her UFC debut on the strength of a perfect 8-0 start to her pro career. After back-to-back decision wins over Kaitlin Young and Sarah D’Alelio at Invicta FC 5 and Invicta FC 6, she picked up a TKO win over Miriam Nakamotao in December at Invicta FC 7 to win the promotion’s inaugural bantamweight belt. But she won’t get a chance to defend it, instead moving to the UFC.
