Sage Northcutt gets call after Legacy FC 44 win, debuts at UFC 192 in Houston

After his latest stoppage victory, Sage Northcutt got some pretty big news in front of his home fans.

Northcutt (5-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC), a 19-year-old welterweight from nearby Katy, Texas, tapped out Rocky Long (21-34-1) on the main card of Legacy FC 44 on Friday night in Houston.

After the win, it was announced that Northcutt had secured a UFC contract and will make his promotional debut this fall – also in Houston at UFC 192. No first opponent was announced for Northcutt, though his fight is likely to take place on the UFC Fight Pass portion of the preliminary card.

UFC 192 takes place Oct. 3 at Toyota Center in Houston. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass. Northcutt’s win over Long at Legacy FC 44 took place at Arena Theater in Houston and aired on AXS TV.

In a career spanning six amateur fights and five pro bouts, Northcutt has been out of the first round just twice. One of those was Friday night, when he needed to go into the second round to get a rear-naked choke that turned into a neck crank against Long, who had 14 times as many pro fights as his opponent.

Northcutt turned pro in late 2014 after going 5-1 as an amateur with four first-round stoppage wins. At his pro debut at Legacy FC 37, he stopped Tim Lashley with a first-round TKO. He followed that up earlier this spring with first-round TKO wins in April and May at Legacy’s Challenger Series and for Fury Fighting. In June, he submitted Gage Duhon at Legacy FC 42, giving him three first-round stoppage wins in three months.

The UFC is no stranger to signing young fighters. Dan Lauzon was 18 when he made his debut at UFC 64. Vitor Belfort was 19 when he debuted. Robbie Lawler and Nick Diaz both were 20, and more recently, Max Holloway, Sergio Pettis and Michael McDonald were 20 when they debuted. That will put Northcutt into some pretty solid company.

Check out the video highlights of his Friday victory above. Then don’t miss UFC 192 on Oct. 3.

The UFC 192 lineup now includes:

  • Champ Daniel Cormier vs. Alexander Gustafsson – for light heavyweight title
