A bantamweight fight between Ryan Hollis and Adrian Yanez is set for Friday’s Bellator 149.
Hollis (10-7 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) will step in for Daniel Santos (3-0 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) against Yanez (3-1 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) on the preliminary card. Although the fight between Santos and Yanez never was officially announced by Bellator, visa issues kept Santos, from Brazil, from being able to make the trip to the United States for the fight, a source close to his camp told MMAjunkie.
Bellator 149 takes place Friday at Toyota Center in Houston. The main card airs on Spike following prelims on MMAjunkie.
Santos and Yanez, who is from Texas, were supposed to fight at Legacy FC 50 in January in Houston. But that fight didn’t come to fruition, and Santos told MMAjunkie Legacy worked with Bellator to get the bout onto Bellator 149, also in Houston. But a visa issue for Santos will keep him on the sideline, and Hollis is the beneficiary.
Hollis has lost three of his past four fights and will be making his Bellator debut. The Texan went 2-4 in his six fights for Legacy. He had a busy 2015 with five fights. Most recently, he fought Eric Shelton a month ago under the Premier Cage Fighting banner in Texas and dropped a decision.
Yanez dropped his lone Legacy fight, a decision setback to Levi Mowles in November 2014. But since then, he has back-to-back stoppage wins under the Fury Fighting banner in Texas.
Santos was looking to keep his unbeaten record intact. The Brazilian, who trains with Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos, was set to make his U.S. debut at Legacy FC 50, and then at Bellator 149.
With the change, the Bellator 149 lineup now includes:
MAIN CARD (Spike TV, 9 p.m. ET)
PRELIMINARY CARD (MMAjunkie, 7 p.m. ET)
