Report: Brazil gets UFC Fight Night in Brasilia, UFC 179 in Rio de Janeiro

ufc-crowd-brazil.jpgThe UFC’s Brazilian commitment remains strong, and the company has reportedly booked two more visits to the South American nation for later this year.

MMAjunkie today confirmed with sources close to the promotion that the company is planning a UFC Fight Night event in Brasilia for Sept. 13, as well as pay-per-view event with UFC 179 in Rio de Janeiro.

MMAFighting reported the details of the UFC Fight Night event, which marks the UFC’s first visit to the nation’s capital. the 16,000-seat Nilson Nelson Gymnasium, opened in 1973, is expected to play host.

Tatame first reported the details of UFC 179, which is scheduled for Oct. 25. However, unlike the previous four visits to “The Marvelous City,” the UFC will reportedly not visit HSBC Arena but rather Maracanazinho Gymnasium, a 12,000-seat venue that opened in 1954.

UFC officials did not immediately respond to a request to confirm the details of the two new bookings. There aren’t currently any fight pairings associated with the either of the new dates.

The UFC has already hosted a pair of events in Brazil thus far in 2014 and is set to return to the country on May 31 for the TUF Brazil 3 Finale.
