Promoter: Thomas Forced Off FT7 Card Following Car Accident

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- After receiving unfortunate news, Fight Time Promoter Howard Davis Jr. announced to the War Memorial Auditorium crowd that UFC veteran Din Thomas had been involved in a car accident as he was traveling to the venue and would not be able headline the night’s Fight Time 7 card against George Sheppard.

Davis told Sherdog.com that Thomas’ car had been totaled and that the Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt suffered a broken rib and a few minor cuts and bruises, but would be OK.

“I’ve known Din for years and he’s always been honest and honorable, a great character,” said Davis. “I was concerned about his well being and I hope he recuperates from his injury.”

After news of Thomas’ accident was revealed, super heavyweights Walter Harris and Cedric James looked to lighten the mood in the arena and came out bombing on one another. In the end, Harris’ power proved to be too much for James to take as he crumbled to the mat. Harris swarmed and finished off the defenseless big man, putting him to sleep with punches in just 22 seconds of the opening period.

In a thrilling lightweight affair, Matt McCook dominated the first frame in his bout with Roy Bradshaw, using his superior grappling to almost finish the Washington native via rear-naked choke.

Bradshaw had enough of the ground battle, and came out in the second round looking to stuff McCook’s takedowns. In the process, he cinched a deep guillotine that forced McCook to tap at 1:17 of round two.

On the event’s undercard, Damion Williams submitted Julian Flor with a forearm choke at 0:57 of round one; John Rivera knocked out Jimmy Alexander with a head kick and follow-up hammerfists at 0:34 of the first; Patrick Williams submitted Phil Geuber’s with a rear-naked choke at 4:17 of round two; Lucas Borges pounded out Doug Rossi with punches from half guard at 0:48 of the opening period.
