New ONE FC signings include unbeaten Russian featherweight Marat Gafurov

one-fc-14-posterWhile not as high-profile as one of its recent signings, ONE FC continued to bolster its roster with the addition of six new fighters.

The Asia-based promotion recently announced it has signed a handful of international prospects. Debuts for the fighters were not announced, but the company continues to build the lineup for its first event of 2014, ONE FC 14, which takes place March 14 at Stadium Negara in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Late in 2013, ONE FC announced it had come to a deal with former Bellator welterweight champion Ben Askren. His promotional debut has not yet been announced.

But he now is joined by fellow newcomers Marat Gafurov, Kelvin Fitial, Rob Lisita, Martin Nguyen, Kultar Gill and Kentaro Watanabe.

Gafurov (8-0), from the Ukraine, is unbeaten in his pro career with five submission victories. The bulk of the featherweight’s career has been spent picking up wins for M-1 Challenge, where he was that promotion’s 145-pound champion.

Fitial (12-7-2), from the Northern Mariana Islands of Saipan, is a heavyweight who is on a six-fight unbeaten streak, going 5-0-1 since his most recent loss in May 2009. Nine of his 12 wins have come by knockout, and the other three have been submissions. But Fitial has not competed since June 2011.

Lisita (13-5), an Australian featherweight, has won six of his past seven fights, four of them by stoppage. Overall, he has 10 of his 13 career wins by finish with seven submissions.

Nguyen (3-0) beat Luke Standing to become the winner of ONE FC Network Partner Brace’s featherweight championship contest and was promised a ONE FC contract. Nguyen stopped Standing in the first round in December.

Gill (12-8), from Canada, is a 34-year-old welterweight who has been fighting since 2001. He brings a two-fight winning streak into ONE FC, as well as a resume that includes fights against the likes of Joachim Hansen, Tatsuya Kawajiri, Yves Edwards, Caol Uno and Rodrigo Damm. He has 11 of his 12 wins by stoppage.

Watanabe (10-4), a Japanese flyweight, has won six of his past seven fights, and in that stretch, he has all three of his career knockout finishes. Watanabe has fought exclusively for Shooto in his native Japan.
