Nearly all of Albuquerque turned out for the Holly Holm celebration


When it comes to recognizing and celebrating one of its own, Albuquerque, N.M., is on par with any of the country’s top sports cities.

With no major league franchises in the city – or even the state, for that matter – Albuquerque hasn’t wasted its opportunity to celebrate newly crowned UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm.

Holm (10-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) put together a spectacular performance and dethroned longtime champ Ronda Rousey (12-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC) this past month at UFC 194 with a second-round head-kick knockout win.

Rousey was as much as a 20-1 favorite on the week of the fight, but former pro boxing champ Holm pulled off the upset in a dominant performance.

On Sunday, the city rallied around Holm, who’s long been based out of Albuquerque’s Team Jackson-Winkeljohn, with a parade and celebration. And the images are pretty spectacular (via Twitter):
