Mike King‘s failed drug test at UFC Fight Night 46 will be a costly one.
UFC officials today announced that King (5-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) failed a drug test due to nandrolone, an anabolic steroid, following his submission loss to middleweight Cathal Pendred (14-2-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) at the July 19 event, which took place at The Helix in Dublin.
As a result, “The Ultimate Fighter 19? cast member has been forced to surrender his $50,000 “Fight of the Night” bonus.
Additionally, he’s been suspended nine months, retroactive to the event, and must pass another drug test before he can fight again.
According to UFC.com:
UFC middleweight Mike King tested positive for nandrolone following his bout against Cathal Pendred at UFC Fight Night Dublin: McGregor vs. Brandao on July 19, 2014. He was informed that his positive test violated the UFC Fighter Conduct Policy and Promotional Agreement with Zuffa, LLC. The UFC has a strict, consistent policy against the use of any illegal and/or performance-enhancing drugs, stimulants or masking agents by our athletes. He agreed to serve a 9-month suspension retroactive to the event and must pass a drug test before receiving clearance to compete again. He will forfeit his $50,000 Fight of the Night bonus.
King, a 31-year-old Ohioan, made his promotional debut at the event, which streamed on UFC Fight Pass. He battered Pendred in the first round but ultimately suffered a second-round submission loss via rear-naked choke.
