Lightweight contender Michael Johnson has been forced out of his UFC on FOX 12 bout against Josh Thomson due to injury, with Bobby “King” Green stepping in to face “The Punk” on July 26 at the SAP Center in San Jose, California.
UFC officials confirmed the injury and opponent change on Friday.
Green, winner of seven straight, was originally scheduled to face Abel Trujillo on the August 16 UFC Fight Night card in Maine. Now he will go up against longtime 155-pound standout and former Strikeforce champion Thomson, whose last appearance in San Jose saw him knock out Nate Diaz in two rounds.
A new opponent is being sought for Trujillo.
UFC on Fox 12 takes place on July 26 at the SAP Center in San Jose, Calif., and is headlined by a welterweight match-up between Robbie Lawler and Matt Brown. Johnson vs. Thomson was originally scheduled to kick off the main card portion of the fight card on FOX.
