MacDonald Hurt, off UFC 140; Ebersole Draws Replacement Patrick

Welterweight prospect Rory MacDonald has suffered an unspecified injury and will be unable to compete at UFC 140, promotion officials announced Tuesday evening. Stepping up to face Brian Ebersole will be MacDonald’s countryman, Claude Patrick.

Headlined by a light heavyweight title bout between Jon Jones and Lyoto Machida, UFC 140 goes down Dec. 10 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. The UFC’s second trip to the province of Ontario, the event will also feature a pivotal heavyweight rematch pitting Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira against Frank Mir.

A veteran as experienced as they come, Ebersole (Pictured) is known for his effective but unorthodox style and his nine-fight winning streak. Stepping in on short notice, Ebersole made his Octagon debut at UFC 127, upsetting Chris Lytle in February. “Bad Boy” proved his first win was no fluke in August when he finished another savvy veteran, Dennis Hallman, at UFC 133. A veteran of 64 fights, Ebersole holds 20 career wins by submission.

Originally slated to square off with Rich Attonito at UFC 140, Patrick now finds himself fortuitously thrust onto the main card. Known as “The Prince,” Patrick has not lost since 2002, winning 13 straight bouts. The Ontario native debuted with the UFC in June 2010 and has posted a perfect 3-0 Octagon record, most recently outpointing Daniel Roberts at UFC 129 in April.
