Legacy FC 60 results: Brian Heden gets revenge, blasts Tyler East into retirement

More than six years ago, Tyler East spent 15 minutes beating up Brian Heden. On Friday, Heden got his revenge.

Heden (29-15) had to weather an early storm from East (15-6) in their heavyweight main event at Legacy FC 60, but then blasted him along the fence to get a standing TKO stoppage at the 1:51 mark of the first round. Prior to the fight, East said he was going to retire, win or lose, in part due to the frustration he hadn’t been called by the UFC yet.

After the fight, East said he didn’t care about the fight at all and didn’t train for it, but just wanted to do his best. His best, apparently, was getting blasted by an old foe.

Legacy FC 60 took place at Grand Casino Hinckley in Hinckley, Minn. The main card aired on AXS TV.

East worked leg kicks right away against Heden, then kicked to the body. Heden caught one of the kicks and briefly had East on the canvas. But 30 seconds in, East started teeing off with punches and knees.

Just when it looked like Heden was in trouble, he winged a right back East’s way and caught him adn hurt him. East’s left eye was cut, and Heden took advantage in a big way. Heden drilled East with a punch that knocked his mouthguard out. From there, it was a quick mauling until the referee called it off.

Cochrane dominates Eichelberger for second-round submission
Dakota Cochrane (26-10) had one of the most dominant performances of his career in a fight he took on only three weeks’ notice for his Legacy FC debut. Cochrane tapped out Jos Eichelberger (16-10) in the second. Cochrane opened with a big leg kick, then fended off a nice move by Eichelberger on the canvas after Cochrane slipped. Seconds later, Cochrane had Eichelberger up for a big slam, then spent the rest of the first round working on short punches and elbows from on top. The second round was much more of the same. Cochrane spent part of the round in mount, and when he wasn’t, he was pounding away. In the final 20 seconds, he was able to cinch on a rear-naked choke after jumping from side control to mount, and Eichelberger quickly had to tap with 13 seconds left in the second frame.

Richardson kicks his way past Compton
Nate Richardson (5-1) made things look easy against Nick Compton (12-4). It just took him a little while to get it done. After a pair of dominant rounds, including leaving Compton’s left eye plenty swollen, Richardson finally got a TKO stoppage midway through the third round. The finish came at the 2:34 mark of the frame. In the first two rounds, Richardson battered Compton’s legs with kicks, several times forcing his opponent to lay on the ground basically begging for Richardson to go down there to fight instead of staying at kicking distance. Those kicks built up and helped contribute to the finish in the third.

Romero chokes out Pitts in first round
Indalecio Tat Romero (27-6) made things look easy against Isaiah Pitts (5-2). Romero landed a crisp right hand a minute in. Then, after finding a home for a quick combo, Romero got inside, scooped Pitts up, then slammed him for a perfect takedown into side control. After 90 seconds of ground-and-pound, he stepped over to full mount. From there, it was only a matter of time. After clobbering Pitts with punches, he locked up an arm-triangle choke with relative ease and forced the tap at the 3:50 mark of the round.

Edwards blasts Christianson in 12 seconds
Maybe Marcus Edwards (12-4) should take a year off more often. Edwards tried a head kick early against Billy Christianson (10-6), and after ducking away from a right hand, he landed a wicked left hook that had Christianson quickly on the canvas. Edwards pounced immediately and landed several hammer fists on the ground. And with Christianson grabbing on to a leg, defensively, the referee pushed Edwards off to stop the fight. Christianson popped back to his feet right away, incensed at the stoppage. He likely was going to keep taking damage, but it appeared his opposition to the 12-second loss was justified. Christianson didn’t stick around to hear Edwards’ name called as the winner, and instead winged his moutpiece back into the cage while walking back to the locker room. Edwards hadn’t fought since Novemeber 2015.

Olson gets past slow start to grind out Wagner
Cameron Olson (5-2) overcame a slow first round against Nick Wagner (7-6-1) to mostly cruise in the second and third rounds for a unanimous decision win with a trio of 29-28 scorecards. Olson left Wagner bloodied and battered over the final 10 minutes, beating him up on the feet and on the ground, where he threatened with a choke for the close of the second round, but eventually let it go. But he was well on his way to the unanimous decision win.

Greene knocks out Thumb 25 seconds into first round
All it took was one failed takedown attempt by Zach Thumb (4-3), and Maurice Greene (3-1) knew he was going to be all right. Shortly after that, the 6-foot-7 Greene threw a right head kick Thumb’s way – and because he’s so tall, his knee connected with Thumb’s head before his foot ever could, and that was all she wrote. Thumb was out cold 25 seconds into the main card’s opening fight. There wasn’t even enough time for Michael Schiavello to make a Greene-Thumb joke.
