Kelvin Gastelum Suspended for UFC 205 Weight Issues | MMAWeekly.com

Kelvin Gastelum has been suspended for his UFC 205: Alvarez vs. McGregor weigh-in blunder. So not only did he disrupt the event, forcing the cancellation of a fight, he also won’t be able to book a new bout, at any weight, for the next few months. According to ESPN reporter Brett Okamoto, the New York State Athletic Commission confirmed to him that it had suspended Gastelum for six months for failing to appear at the official UFC 205 weigh-in.

Kelvin-Gastelum-TUF-17-Winner-750Gastelum was reportedly in the neighborhood of 10 pounds above the 171-pound limit for his UFC 205 welterweight bout with Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone. Instead of appearing at the weigh-in to make it official, Gastelum tweeted about being unable to make weight and failed to step on the scale.  While the suspension falls solely under the jurisdiction of New York, it is common practice for other state athletic commissions and the UFC to honor such suspensions. That would be nearly a year since he defeated Johny Hendricks at UFC 200 in July. Follow MMAWeekly.com on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
