Josh Koscheck wasn’t supposed to have fought Mike Pierce at UFC 143 on Saturday night. He was supposed to throw down with Carlos Condit, who is now the interim UFC welterweight champion following his win over Nick Diaz.
As with every event, as soon as it’s over, the questions fly about who is next. It was no different on Saturday night.
One intriguing match-up, if Diaz doesn’t call it quits as he hinted at, would be Koscheck throwing down with the fighter from the 209.
“Why not?” said Koscheck at the UFC 143 post-fight press conference. “He’s a tough guy. It would be a good fight.”
But with champion Georges St-Pierre out of action until sometime around October or November, Condit may not want to sit on the sidelines that long, so why not pit Koscheck and Condit in the Octagon, since they were supposed to have fought at UFC 143 anyway?
“Definitely, there’s a little bit of history with us and we were supposed to fight tonight. I’m down.”
