It appears Joe Stevenson’s time at lightweight is done, at least for the time being. The former “Ultimate Fighter” winner will drop down to 145 pounds and face Javier Vazquez at UFC on Versus 4 expected to take place on June 26.
The UFC announced the fight on Monday.
Stevenson (31-13) has been against the wall a bit in his last few fights, dropping three in a row and going 2-5 in his last seven.
The former welterweight fighter will now drop all the way down to featherweight to try and rejuvenate his career, in what has to be considered a must-win situation.
Javier Vazquez (15-5) makes his long awaited UFC debut after working for several other promotions, including his most recent stint with the WEC.
Vazquez is coming off a decision loss to current featherweight contender Chad Mendes, but is known as one of the toughest and most dangerous submission fighters in the division.
The bout between Stevenson and Vazquez takes place at UFC on Versus 4, which happens on June 26 and currently is rumored for the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh.
