Jake Heun Blog #1- The Bright Side

Jake Heun

So here is my first attempt at blogging. Hopefully it goes over better than my last scrap….

Looking back at my experience with the Global Warrior Challenge in Kansas brings up a lot of different thoughts and emotions for me. The first and foremost being,"SHIT!!!!!!" and my good friend, self-loathing anger. These being brought to the surface of course by the rear naked choke a semi-conscious Dayman Lake applied on me after weathering a beating that Wanderlei Silva would be proud of (one can dream). Oh and to make matters worse, there was 30 seconds left in the round. So, all in all it's a real FML situation. Until you see the bright side…..

I got to travel to this fight with Ricardo Liborio, the master at AmericanTopTeam, and this for me opened up a new well of knowledge and insight. The way Libo carried himself and looked at the fight, from the travel to the warm up to the actual fight itself, was amazing. To have someone like him truly believe in you could give confidence to the meekest of children. So for me, someone whom humility may not be the first trait people would list when describing them, gave me an overload of, “I`m a Baaaaad Maaan!!" In my head. There was never any doubt that that fight would end in the first via stoppage. And it did, just on the wrong end.

Moving forward, I see the changes that need to be made in my game, and for those of you who may be slow, that is submission defense, submission defense, and submission defense. So as we get on to the next one, we can hand out ass whoopings that send our opponents to get stapled back together, and not remember the fight AND get that win. 5-3 is not pretty on sherdog.com.

I’m looking forward to jumping back in soon and putting on a show, and the GWC was a great platform for that. They treated us like superstars, even those of us who aren't former UFC champs or Ultimate Fighter winners or the man, the myth, the legend: Drew Fickett.

It was nice to be a part of a show that clearly cared about their fighters. Anyway I’m rambling and I’ll probably write another one of these the next time I eat ethnic food and have some toilet time to think. Thanks everybody!
