Invicta FC 14 set for Sept. 12 with Tonya Evinger vs. Pannie Kianzad title headliner

Invicta FC bantamweight champion Tonya Evinger will defend her title for the first time in September when the promotion returns to Kansas City.

Less than two months after winning the belt, Evinger (16-5) will defend her 135-pound strap for the first time when she meets the unbeaten Pannie Kianzad (8-0) in the Invicta FC 14 main event. Invicta officials announced the card today.

Invicta FC 14 takes place Sept. 12 at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo., which also played host to Invicta FC 12 in April. The 10-bout fight card streams live in its entirety on UFC Fight Pass.

A previously announced strawweight championship bout between champion Livia Renata Souza and No. 1 contender Alexa Grasso has been postponed from the event after Grasso suffered an injury.

Following a 1-3 stint from 2010-2011, Evinger has made a resurgence to the top of the Invicta ranks in recent years. She’s won seven consecutive bouts with five stoppages in that stretch. The crowning achievement of her current winning streak, however, was her fourth-round TKO of Irene Aldana at Invicta FC 13 in July.

“Triple Threat” will not spent any time sitting on her title-winning victory. Her first defense of the belt will come just 65 days after she captured the belt.

Kianzad will hope to make Evinger’s title reign short-lived. The 23-year-old is one of the brightest prospects in the weight class and earned her way into the No. 1 contender position with a unanimous decision win over Jessica-Rose Clark at Invicta FC 13.

“Sexy Scramble” fought the majority of her career bouts overseas, primarily in her native Sweden, before she made her Invicta debut earlier this year. She’ll look to capture her first major championship at the expense of Evinger.
