Injured Riddle Off ‘Sanchez vs. Kampmann’ Lineup

Matt Brown is once again without an opponent, as Matt Riddle (Pictured) has withdrawn from their welterweight bout at UFC Live 3 on March 3 at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Ky.

Initially, Brown had his participation in the event threatened when his first opponent, athletic Brit Mark Scanlon, was forced to exit due to injury. Riddle answered the call to step up for Scanlon last week but has since injured his hand in training and pulled out of his matchup with Brown.

Riddle’s withdrawal was first reported by Versus.com on Thursday, and Sherdog.com has independently confirmed the news with sources close to the situation. The event, which will air live on the Versus network, will be headlined by a welterweight showdown between dangerous Dane Martin Kampmann and “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 1 winner Diego Sanchez.

It remains uncertain as to whether or not the UFC will find another replacement foe for Brown. A product of AMC Pankration, Brown went 4-1 in his first five UFC bouts before suffering three consecutive submission defeats in 2010. “The Immortal” was first bested by Renzo Gracie pupil Ricardo Almeida at UFC 111 before falling to “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 4 finalist Chris Lytle at UFC 116. His year ended on a sour note in a loss to HIT Squad product Brian Foster at UFC 123 in November. Brown owns all 11 of his career victories by either knockout or submission.
