Less than 24 hours after news broke that Anthony Perosh had suffered a grotesquely broken toe that required surgery and forced him off of the UFC on FX 6 fight card, Perosh’s opponent, Joey Beltran, has a new foe lined up.
UFC Australia officials on Tuesday announced that Igor Pokrajac has stepped up to face Beltran at UFC on FX 6, which also serves as the finals for the first edition of The Ultimate Fighter Australia.
Pokrajac (25-9) recently had a three-fight winning streak derailed when he lost to Vinny Magalhaes at UFC 152 in Toronto.
The Croatian will be looking to the fight with Beltran to try and get back on the right track.
Beltran (14-8), however, is in even more dire straights.
The former heavyweight went outside the Octagon to get his first victory at light heavyweight, but returned to the UFC only to lose a unanimous decision to James TeHuna in July.
This will only be his third fight at 205 pounds since making the drop, but it’s by far the most important, as he’ll surely not want to drop back-to-back bouts in his return to the UFC.
TUF The Smashes coaches George Sotiropoulos and Ross Pearson headline the UFC on FX 6 fight card, which is slated to go down on Dec. 15 at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre in Broadbeach, Queensland, Australia.
(Note: UFC on FX 6, because of the time difference, will be broadcast live on Dec. 14 in the U.S.)
