Georges St-Pierre to Have ACL Surgery Next Week in Los Angeles

Georges St-Pierre UFC World TourFormer UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre will have surgery to repair his torn ACL next week in Los Angeles, according a report on Wednesday evening.

As told on UFC Tonight, St-Pierre will see the same physicians with whom he had his last ACL surgery in 2011.

St-Pierre told the FOX Sports 1 program that he injured his left knee last week towards the end of one of his training sessions. The fighter’s foot got caught in the training mats and he heard a pop, according to UFC Tonight.

Despite the injury and a feeling instability in the knee, GSP said he is in no pain at all, the report said.

Prior to tearing the ACL in his left knee, St-Pierre tore the same ligament in his right knee in 2011, forcing him out of the Octagon for several months after. Upon his return, he defeated interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit in November 2012.

St-Pierre has been on a hiatus since defeating Johny Hendricks at UFC 167 in November of last year, taking a leave of absence from the UFC, and vacating the welterweight title. The now-former champ has committed to retiring, nor has he revealed a timeline for a return to fighting.
