Georges St-Pierre is still enjoying life outside the cage, but the competitive itch might just be starting to get back to the former welterweight champion.
Or maybe not.
Speaking to reporters in Brazil (h/t MMA Fighting's Guillherme Cruz), St-Pierre opened up on what he's been up to and where he is mentally in terms of a possible return.
"Don’t blink, but I don’t know," he said. "We’ll see. It could be a yes, fast, or it could be a no it depend. I can’t tell you everything I have to keep myself some secret sometimes."
Since abdicating his title in December, St-Pierre has been spotted all over the western hemisphere, partying it up in Miami, cheering on the Edmonton Rush lacrosse team and, obviously, living it up in Brazil.
In spite of the comfortable life he has been living since stepping away, though, he says he is in tip-top shape, should he decide to get back into the cage: "Oh yeah, I train everyday. I'm actually more healthy than I ever felt before...I've even gained three kilos of muscle mass."
Still, "Rush" stated he's not necessarily in any hurry to get back into the cage, reiterating his desire to see more out-of-competition drug testing and saying that he's still loving life on the road.
The news comes less than a week ahead of UFC 171, headlined by Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler, who will face off to fill the vacant title St-Pierre left behind. Hendricks, as most remember, dropped a narrow split decision loss to St-Pierre at UFC 167. The outcome was highly controversial, drawing a great deal of heat from fans and media.
St-Pierre's ghost still looms large over the division, however, and the question of how well the UFC can do without him remains unanswered.
Regardless, St-Pierre is loving life, and that is something his fans should be pleased by.
