GFL Video: Watch Gabriel Gonzaga punch ticket back to UFC with 2011 win

Gabriel Gonzaga’s second UFC stint has been a mixed bag. After a stretch of four wins in five bouts, Gonzaga slid back to Earth with a three-fight losing skid.

Gonzaga (17-10 MMA, 12-9 UFC) snapped that skid in his most recent fight, a lackluster unanimous-decision win over Konstantin Erokhin at The Ultimate Fighter 22 Finale in December.

He looks to build on the victory when he faces Derrick Lewis (14-4 MMA, 5-2 UFC) in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 86, which takes place Sunday at Zagreb Arena in Zagreb, Croatia. The card airs on FOX Sports 1 following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass.

Gonzaga found himself fighting outside the UFC’s octagon in October 2011. Knowing he needed an impressive performance to earn his way back onto the world’s biggest stage, Gonzaga delivered.

He faced off with Parker Porter at “Reality Fighting: Gonzaga vs. Porker” and earned an impressive third-round arm-triangle-choke win.

The performance was enough to propel him back to the UFC and provide him with the opportunity to once again fight against some of the biggest names in the heavyweight division.
