Two pieces of puzzle fall out and Joe Silva puts it all back together again.
Just days after Erik Koch and Raphael Assuncao lost opponents, it appears the UFC is putting the featherweights together for a bout on the UFC 128 undercard instead.
While no bout agreements have been issued for the fight, sources indicated to MMAWeekly.com that both Koch and Assuncao have been approached about the fight, and have at least agreed verbally to meet on March 19 at UFC 128.
Koch (11-1) was originally scheduled to face Cub Swanson at UFC on Versus 3 next week in Louisville, Ky., but Swanson suffered an injury that forced him off the card. With only a week to go until fight time, the UFC was unable to secure a solid replacement and so Koch was pulled from the slot.
Hours after that news broke, Manny Gamburyan pulled out of his fight at UFC 128 against Raphael Assuncao (16-3) with a back injury.
Now all signs are pointing towards Koch and Assuncao meeting at UFC 128 in New Jersey. The UFC has not officially announced the switch, but the bout would likely remain on the untelevised undercard.
