The UFC’s October return to Sweden has its latest addition.
Featherweight Dennis Siver (21-9 MMA, 10-6 UFC) will return from suspension to meet Robert Whiteford (11-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 53 in Stockholm. UFC officials announced the fight Tuesday morning following an initial report from German MMA site Ground and Pound.
UFC Fight Night 53 takes place Oct. 4 at Ericsson Globe in Stockholm. The event is expected to stream on UFC Fight Pass in the United States.
Siver will return after a nine-month suspension handed down by the Nevada State Athletic Commission following his win over Manny Gamburyan at UFC 168 this past December. Siver tested positive for human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) after the event and had his victory flipped to a no-contest. He also was fined 30 percent of his purse.
The Gamburyan fight, had gotten him back on track after a third-round TKO loss to Cub Swanson at UFC 162, a bout that picked up “Fight of the Night” honors. That loss snapped a two-fight streak for the German, who against Whiteford will be seeking his first official win since beating Nam Phan in December 2012.
Whiteford in March took a unanimous decision from Daniel Pineda at UFC 171 in Dallas for his first win in the UFC. He made his debut in Manchester, England, in October 2013, but was submitted by Jimy Hettes in the second round on the preliminary card. That was his first loss since his pro debut, snapping a 10-fight streak for the Scotsman.
With the addition, the latest UFC Fight Night 53 card now includes:
