Dave Herman Passes Pre-Fight Drug Test, Cleared to Fight Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC 162

Dave Herman passed his mandatory pre-fight drug test and will fight as expected at UFC 162.

Nevada Athletic Commission Executive Director Keith Kizer verified Herman’s drug test results with Sherdog.com on Tuesday. The heavyweight was suspended for six months by the UFC after testing positive for marijuana in October, marking the second time Herman was flagged for cannabis use. The 28-year-old was required to undergo treatment and pass the aforementioned 10-panel drug test before he could return to action.

Herman will face Gabriel Gonzaga during Saturday night’s FX-broadcast preliminary card, which immediately precedes the pay-per-view offering. UFC 162 takes place at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and is headlined by a middleweight title confrontation between longtime champion Anderson Silva and unbeaten challenger Chris Weidman.

An EliteXC, Bellator and Sengoku veteran, Herman made his Octagon debut in 2011, stopping decorated grappler John Olav Einemo on second-round strikes at UFC on Fuel TV 1. Three straight losses would follow for Herman, however, as he was knocked out by Stefan Struve and Roy Nelson before submitting to an Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira armbar last year at UFC 153.
