Dave Herman Must Pass Immediate Drug Test Before Being Allowed to Fight at UFC 162

12-Dave-Herman-UFC-131-w-0249-478x270UFC heavyweight Dave Herman has had drug test related issues during his fighting career, and it hasn’t gone unnoticed by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

The NSAC at a commission meeting on Friday said it would issue Herman a one-fight license to compete at next week’s UFC 162 in Las Vegas, but the license is contingent upon him passing an immediate drug test.

He is slated to fight Gabriel Gonzaga as part of the UFC 162 preliminary bouts scheduled to air on the FX network.

Herman had a UFC 136 bout with Mike Russow cancelled when he failed a preliminary drug test. He then failed a post-fight drug test following his loss to Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 153. He tested positive for marijuana both times.

Herman was suspended for six months and required to undergo a drug treatment program following his failed test at UFC 153.

If he passes the test and fights at UFC 162, Herman is still not in the clear. He is in a must-win situation, entering the fight with Gonzaga on a three-bout losing streak. With UFC roster space a hot commodity, Herman can’t afford another loss.
