Daniel Straus Injury Knocks Him Out of Bellator 95 Title Fight with Pat Curran

Daniel StrausDaniel Straus has been forced out of his Bellator 95 featherweight title fight against champion Pat Curran. The bout was scheduled for April 4 at Revel Resort & Casino in Atlantic City, N.J.

Straus broke his hand during a training session, according to an initial report by MMAJunkie.com.

MMAWeekly.com on Tuesday confirmed the injury with Bellator officials, who said that they were still working out how they were going to handle the situation.

Straus has been waiting for his title shot since winning the Season 6 tournament in May of last year.

Curran won the belt in March of 2012, but a broken orbital bone put him on the shelf for the remainder of the year. He has defended the title once, winning a split decision over Patricio Freire at Bellator 85 in January, the first Bellator event on Spike TV.

Straus stayed busy during his wait by submitting Alvin Robinson at Bellator 78 last October, but will now have to wait a little bit longer due to his injury.

Straus was next in line behind Freire, with Shahbulat Shamhalaev winning the spot after Straus at last week’s Bellator 90.
