Dana White Video: Jon Jones is Never Going to be the Jon Jones People Expect

Dana White separating Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones

UFC president Dana White hasn’t yet had a chance to talk to former light heavyweight champion Jon Jones about his recent legal troubles in New Mexico – that’s due in large part to Jones being incarcerated for the past three days – but that didn’t stop TMZ Sports from tracking White down for a comment on the UFC superstar.

“When I get pulled over by the police, I’m the most polite human being you’ve ever met in your life,” White told TMZ. “There’s no upside to talking back to the police. It’s the dumbest thing you can ever do, especially if you’re in Jon Jones’ position.”

That comes on the heals of the now-infamous police bodycam video that shows Jones in a belligerent argument with the issuing officer.

Jones, however, was released from custody on Thursday following a hearing, where New Mexico judge Michael Martinez approved a plea deal. In the agreement with the probation department, Jones agreed to take a driver improvement course and an anger management class, as well as doing 60 additional hours of community service on top of the 72 hours of community service already required by his initial probation.

The judge declined to impose a 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. curfew, as requested by the probation department, but added his own stipulation that Jones must not drive at all without his probation officer’s approval.

Despite all of Jones’ attempts to clean up his act, White said, “I don’t think Jon Jones is ever going to be the Jon Jones that people expect him to be.”
