The upstart DREAM promotion, which will replace the former K-1 HERO’S organization with help from former staffers of the now-defunct PRIDE Fighting Championships, announced a number of additional participants and match-ups for its upcoming lightweight grand prix tournament.
The opening round of the tournament will take place at the organization’s debut show, “DREAM 1,” which is set for March 15 at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.
The bouts were announced today at a press conference and on the organization’s new website, dreamofficial.com.
In addition to a previously announced Shinya Aoki vs. Gesias “JZ” Calvancante bout, DREAM also announced Kultar Gill vs. Tatsuya Kawajir, Luiz Firmino vs. Kazuyuki Miyata and Koutetsu Boku vs. Joachim Hansen.
The tournament, which features many of the world’s top lightweights, now includes:
DREAM executives stated that additional information about the tournament will be announced soon.
As we mentioned earlier today, the organization also planned for a fight between Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic and K-1 fighter Ray Sefo, but Sefo had to turn down the bout due to a lack of training time. He hopes the fight will be available this summer.
