Charmaine Tweet replaces Julia Budd vs. Ediane Gomes at Invicta FC 6

charmaine-tweet.jpgInvicta Fighting Championships’ next show has taken another injury hit.

Julia Budd (5-2) has suffered a neck injury that will knock her out of her featherweight bout against Ediane Gomes (10-2) at Invicta FC 6. Stepping in for Budd will be Charmaine Tweet (4-3). Promotion officials confirmed a report of the injury from MMARising.com.

Invicta FC 6 takes place July 13 at Ameristar Casino Hotel in Kansas City, Mo. The event airs on pay-per-view in North America, and international viewers can watch via an online pay-per-view stream, each for $14.95.

Tweet, from Canada, will make her Invicta debut on a three-fight win streak. Earlier this month, she submitted Amanda Bell in regional action in Canada, and in March, she got Sy Jewett with a rear-naked choke, as well. In November, she caught Puja Kadian with a guillotine choke at Super Fight League 10 in India. All three wins came in the first round.

It’s been a nice turnaround for the 36-year-old, who started her career 1-3. The first loss of her career came against UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey in June 2011 just 49 seconds into the fight. It was Rousey’s second pro fight. But whereas Rousey is a first-round armbar specialist, Tweet has become a first-round choke-out artist, with all four of her wins coming that way.

Gomes, from Brazil, was supposed to meet Budd at Invicta FC 5, but then was booked to face Cristiane Santos when the promotion signed “Cyborg.” But an injury knocked her off, setting up the fight with Budd at Invicta FC 6 – which, of course, now gets put on hold again. Gomes has a four-fight win streak, including a pair of Invicta wins over Hiroko Yamanaka in January and a submission of Katalina Malungahu in October. Her most recent loss was more than two years ago to Rousey.

Budd was looking to extend her three-fight win streak, all of which have come with finishes under the Invicta banner. At Invicta FC 2, she stopped Elina Nilsson with first-round strikes. At Invicta FC 3, she did the same to Danielle West. And in April, at Invicta FC 5, she submitted Mollie Estes in the third round. Her most recent loss, just like Gomes, was a 39-second armbar tapout to Rousey in a November 2011 Strikeforce Challengers show. Rousey won the Strikeforce belt her next time out.

With the change, the new Invicta FC 6 lineup includes:

MAIN CARD (Pay-per-view, 9 p.m. ET)

PRELIMINARY CARD (Ustream, 7 p.m. ET)
