Cerrone Replaces Stout, Faces Siver at UFC 137 in October

Red-hot lightweight Donald Cerrone will make his fourth Octagon trip of 2011 when he takes on German contender Dennis Siver at UFC 137.

Cerrone has agreed to take the place of Canadian Sam Stout in the matchup, Sherdog.com confirmed Monday with a source close to the fight. News of the switch was first reported by MMAWeekly.com; the reason for Stout’s withdrawal was not immediately available.

Set to take place Oct. 29 at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, UFC 137 will be topped by a welterweight championship bout between reigning UFC kingpin Georges St. Pierre and former Strikeforce titleholder Nick Diaz.

It is currently unknown whether the Cerrone-Siver bout will be part of the evening’s pay-per-view-broadcast main card.

Unbeaten in his burgeoning UFC career, former WEC lightweight contender Cerrone (Pictured) has become accustomed to being a replacement opponent. In fact, the 28-year-old Greg Jackson product began his Octagon stint in February by replacing Stout and defeating Paul Kelly in UFC 126’s “Fight of the Night.” In June, the “Cowboy” dominated Vagner Rocha for three rounds, and then made a quick turnaround to face Brazilian upstart Charles Oliveira, whom Cerrone punched out in the first round.

Siver, 32, has won four straight starts and eight of his last nine. He began his year by halting the eight-fight winning streak of George Sotiropoulos in a unanimous decision and subsequently outpointed the durable Matt Wiman in July. Siver’s ledger includes victories over Spencer Fisher, Jim Wallhead and Andre Winner.
