Brazilian phenom Goiti Yamauchi debuts at Bellator 99

goiti-yamauchi.jpgBrazilian phenom Goiti Yamauchi, a 20-year-old who already boasts a 14-1 pro MMA record, will make his Bellator debut on Sept. 13 at Bellator 99.

Yamauchi (14-1 MMA, 0-0 BFC) told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) he’s scheduled to fight fellow featherweight Musa Toliver (9-8-1 MMA, 0-0 BFC) at the event, which takes place at Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, Calif.

Yamauchi vs. Toliver will be part of the Spike.com-streamed prelims, which precede the night’s Spike TV-televised main card.

Yamauchi, who’s riding a nine-fight winning streak with 12 submissions in 14 career victories, was born in Japan to Brazilian parents but moved to the South American country when he was just 3 years old. As detailed in a previous MMAjunkie.com story, Yamauchi launched his fight training early.

“I started muay Thai at 13, boxing at 14, and wrestling at 15,” Yamauchi said. “At 15 I became an amateur MMA fighter.”

He then turned pro two years later and has quickly become one of the sport’s most promising prospects.

Meanwhile, Toliver, who’s based out of California, turned pro in 2004 and went 0-6-1 in his first seven fights. However, he then went on a 9-1 run before a recent KOTC loss to EliteXC and Bellator vet Roberto Vargas in December.
