Bobby Lee Not Concerned with RFA 45 Opponent Damion Sheehan | MMAWeekly.com

After a March RFA fight against Alex Wiggs Jr., where he admittedly took more damage than he should, lightweight up and comer Bobby Lee was able to have a better performance in his next bout, a first-round TKO of Kyle Todd for the RFA in July.

“It wasn’t my best fight (against Wiggs), but I came out with a win,” Lee told MMAWeekly.com. “I got beat up on the feet a little bit.

“I was realizing that RFA is a higher caliber of athlete, higher pace in the fight, so was just much more ready for (the Todd fight). I upped the intensity, and you can see the intensity difference between the two of us. I was ready to go, and as soon as the fight started I hit him with a jab and it was all downhill from there.”

Since turning pro late last year, Lee has been able to showcase a level of growth he feels puts him on par with some of the higher-touted prospects in MMA.

“I think I’m progressing at the pace a 20-year-old dedicated to this sport should be,” he said. “I’ve improved in all areas: striking, wrestling, Jiu-Jitsu.

“I’m progressing at a rate where people are sayING they see where I’m going and that they’ll see me in the UFC in a couple years. Right now I’m looking at Sage Northcutt and Mickey Gall at 20-years-old and fighting in the UFC; well I’m 20 and I can beat these guys. I’m improving at a great pace.”

Lee (4-0) will look to keep his undefeated streak going to start off his career when he takes on Damion Sheehan (3-0) in a main card 155-pound bout at RFA 45 on October 28 in Lake Prior, Minnesota.

“The only danger I see in his game is his 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu, they dive on feet, they dive on heel hooks and ankle locks,” said Lee of Sheehan. “I’ve put in my time, so I’m not worried about going to the ground with this guy, but I’m just saying that’s an area where he may have an advantage.

“It’s not concerning me, because it’s not going to go to the ground, but if it does, I’m pretty confident in my Jiu-Jitsu.”

After a successful first year in MMA, Lee is looking to take his first major MMA championship soon following the RFA and Legacy FC merger.

“I’m looking at 2017 like I’m going to come away with the LFA belt,” he said. “Next year I’ll be fighting in the LFA, so my goal will be to win that belt before considering anything else. If I win that belt, the UFC will come calling.”
