The event takes place Feb. 14 at Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, N.C., and the evening’s main card airs live on Spike TV. The Dantas-Galvao booking was first reported by MMAJunkie.com, and Sherdog.com verified the matchup with a source close to the bout on Thursday. The promotion has announced neither the pairing nor the event as of yet.
Dantas, 23, captured Bellator’s bantamweight strap in April, submitting then-champion Zach Makovsky with a second-round arm-triangle at Bellator 65. The victory came on the heels of “Dudu’s” triumph in the Season 5 bantamweight tournament, which saw the Brazilian best Wilson Reis, Ed West and Alexis Vila to earn his crack at “Fun Size.” Most recently, Dantas was knocked out by underdog Tyson Nam at a Shooto Brazil event on Aug. 25.
Though Galvao represents Nova Uniao, he does not train in Brazil alongside Dantas, instead living in New York City to train with former Shooto and Cage Rage champion Vitor Ribeiro. “Loro” saw his opportunity to face Dantas in the Season 5 finals lost when he was edged by Vila in the semis via split decision. The 31-year-old responded to the setback by winning the Season 6 tournament, outpointing West and Travis Marx before stopping Luis Alberto Nogueira on Aug. 24 to become Bellator’s new No. 1 contender.
