Bellator 149 Results: Kimbo and Dada 5000 Put Everyone to Sleep

The co-main event of Bellator 149 on Friday night in Houston, Texas, was a glorified street fight, and Bellator was shy about admitting to it.

Introducing Kimbo Slice and Dada 5000 as backyard brawlers and using their backyard fight footage from YouTube to promote them made sure that everyone knew this was a street fight transported into an MMA cage.

Most people expected an immediate slugfest with one man or the other quickly going to sleep from a brutal knockout blow. The only ones put to sleep on Friday night were the fans that witnessed two fighters that were quickly exhausted, despite an extremely low output of offense from either.

This was easily one of the worst displays of a mixed martial arts fight ever at the Bellator level.

Neither man produced any offense and both were gassed out before the end of the first round. The fight inexplicably lasted into the third round, if only because neither man could muster anything that resembled damage to the other.

Kimbo and Dada 5000 each could barely get off the stool to start the third frame, threw a few feeble attempts at punches, and then leaned on each for support until Dada 5000 basically fell to the canvas from exhaustion. Referee John McCarthy mercifully waved off the fight, putting an end to everyone’s misery.

In actual mixed martial arts action…

Melvin Guillard immediately stormed Derek Campos, looking to make an impressive return after healing up from a broken hand, but it may have cost him the fight. Campos was ready and clipped Guillard, got him to the canvas, and worked him over for much of the first round.

Guillard came out swinging again in the second round, but Campos was prepared, firing back and catching Guillard with a flurry of punches that had him hurt for the second time in the fight. Realizing Guillard was on wobbly legs, Campos kept firing until Guillard had no legs left and went crashing to the canvas.

The victory put Campos back on track after dropping back-to-back bouts, while Guillard’s slide continued with his third consecutive loss.

Linton Vassell and Emanuel Newton met at Bellator 149 for the opportunity to remain in the hunt for a light heavyweight title shot. For Vassell, it meant even more than that, having lost to Newton once in the past.

Vassell took the opening round, taking control on the canvas, and softening Newton up with ground and pound.

Newton started to get back in the fight in the second frame, but quickly lost any momentum when he added to a first-round low blow with two more in the second frame. The referee deducted a point from Newton after landing his third low blow of the fight.

The pace remained low in the final round, but Vassell did enough in the fight to take a unanimous decision from the judges.

Emmanuel Sanchez opened the main card with a split-decision victory over Daniel Pineda. The two fought a tough back-and-forth battle that played out primarily on the ground, but Sanchez edged ahead in the 150-pound catchweight bout.
