With just days to spare, UFC officials have salvaged a bout on Sunday’s UFC Fight Night 83 fight card.
Officials today announced Anthony Smith (24-11 MMA, 0-1 UFC) is returning to the organization to replace injured Trevor Smith (13-6 MMA, 3-3 UFC), and he now meets middleweight Leonardo Augusto Leleco (11-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) on short notice.
UFC Fight Night 83 takes place at Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh. Following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass, the remainder of the card, including Leleco vs. Smith, airs on FOX Sports 1.
Smith, a former Strikeforce and Bellator fighter, was surprisingly cut from the UFC in 2013 after a lone fight: a submission defeat to Antonio Braga Neto. However, he’s currently riding a seven-fight winning streak (with six stoppages) – one that includes a TKO win over Josh Neer in this past month’s VFC 47 championship headliner.
Leleco, a Brazilian who is making his UFC debut, is currently riding a seven-fight unbeaten streak (with one no-contest). He’s finished nine of his 11 career victories, six via submission.
The latest UFC Fight Night 83 card includes:
MAIN CARD (FOX Sports 1, 9 p.m. ET)
PRELIMINARY CARD (FOX Sports 1, 7 p.m. ET)
PRELIMINARY CARD (UFC Fight Pass, 5:15 p.m. ET)
