Aleksander Emelianenko Convicted of Sexual Assault, Sentenced to Prison

Russian mixed martial artist Aleksander Emelianenko was convicted of sexual assault by Moscow’s Simonovsky District Court on Tuesday and sentenced to 4.5 years in prison.

The younger brother of former Pride champion Fedor Emelianenko was found guilty of raping his 27-year-old housekeeper on March 2, 2014. The 33-year-old pleaded not guilty and claimed that the sex was consensual.

The prosecutor asked for a five-year sentence, and ultimately the former fighter was sentenced to 4.5 years.

Emelianenko’s past brushes with the law are unclear, but in a 2008 interview, Fedor confirmed that his brother had spent 3.5 years in prison. Alexander has denied the claims several times.

Through eleven years of competition, Emelianenko amassed a 23-7 record. He last competed in January 2014 in St. Petersburg, losing by TKO to Dmitry Sosnowski.
