After KO win in debut, Alex Garcia meets Sean Spencer at UFC 171 in Dallas

Right after an impressive win in his UFC debut, Alex Garcia has been booked for his next test – and once again, he’ll be going into an opponent’s backyard.

Garcia (11-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) will meet Sean Spencer (11-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) in a welterweight bout in Spencer’s home training ground of Dallas when the UFC returns there for UFC 171. UFC officials announced the new booking Thursday afternoon.

UFC 171 takes place March 15 at American Airlines Center in Dallas. The main card, featuring a light heavyweight title fight between champion Jon Jones and Glover Teixeira, airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and MMAjunkie.

Garcia made his UFC debut this past Saturday at UFC Fight Night 33 in Australia, where he stopped that country’s Ben Wall in the card’s first fight – in just 43 seconds. Wall took the fight on short notice when Garcia’s original opponent, Andreas Stahl, had to pull out with an injury. The knockout ran the winning streak to five for “The Dominican Nightmare,” who trains at Tristar Gym in Montreal. Of his 11 wins, 10 are by stoppage, evenly split between knockouts and submissions.

Spencer has won back-to-back fights in the UFC after losing his promotional debut in January at UFC on FOX 6 in Chicago. Since that setback to Rafael Natal, he has decision wins over Yuri Villefort and Drew Dober, the latter of which came at the TUF 18 Finale less than two weeks ago.

With the addition of the new bout, the UFC 171 card now includes:

• Champ Jon Jones vs. Glover Teixeira – for light heavyweight title
• Hector Lombard vs. Jake Shields
• Ovince St. Preux vs. Thiago Silva
• Bubba McDaniel vs. Tor Troeng
• Alex Garcia vs. Sean Spencer
