After fighting each other twice previously – 40 minutes over eight rounds – there still was something to be decided between Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard.
The two met for the third time at UFC 136 in October 2011 in Houston with Edgar’s lightweight title again on the line. Nine months earlier, the two fought to a classic draw at UFC 125. In that fight, Maynard took it to Edgar in the first round, nearly finishing him.
In the rematch, it was much of the same. Once again, Edgar had to fight from behind. But this time, he didn’t leave it in the hands of the judges.
On Saturday, now more than three years removed from that lightweight title defense, Edgar (17-4-1 MMA, 11-4-1 UFC) tries to keep rolling at featherweight. He meets Cub Swanson (21-5 MMA, 6-1 UFC) in a critical bout at 145 pounds in the main event of UFC Fight Night 57, which takes place at Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas.
But before Edgar scraps with Swanson, watch his vintage comeback performance in the trilogy fight with Maynard above. Then don’t miss Edgar vs. Swanson on Saturday on FOX Sports 1.
