UFC Fight Night 79 results: Doo Ho Choi stops Sam Sicilia in 93 seconds

SEOUL – Doo Hoi Choi wasted no time dismantling an aggressive Sam Sicilia.

He used precise counter strikes, dropping Sicilia (15-6 MMA, 5-5 UFC) several times before finishing him off with brutal right hands that knocked Sicilia’s mouthpiece to the floor and secured the TKO victory for Choi (13-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) at the 1:33 mark of Round 1.

The featherweight bout opened the main card of today’s UFC Fight Night 79 event at Olympic Gymnastics Arena in Seoul. It streamed on UFC Fight Pass.

Choi’s early strikes were as damaging as they were accurate, and he needed very few of them to put Sicilia in major trouble. In the opening minute of the fight, with Sicilia charging forward, Choi kept his offense tight and lashed out inside of Sicilia’s punches as the American came in.

Stinging Sicilia to the jaw, Choi dropped him almost immediately. Sicilia didn’t stay down long, however, and resuming his frenetic pace on the feet, he almost seemed to have Choi hurt. But Choi’s confidence never wavered, and as Sicilia came forward again, Choi blasted him with a perfectly placed hook that dropped him. With Sicilia on his knees, a follow-up right hand from Choi crumpled him to the mat, and several more rights dislodged his mouthpiece and left him limp on the canvas, forcing a quick end to a violent bout.

Choi has now won 11 straight fights, with his lone loss coming via split-decision in 2010. Sicilia’s loss snaps a two-fight winning streak.
