UFC Fight Night 76 results: Tom Breese blasts through Cathal Pendred in first round

DUBLIN – Tom Breese needed just one round to dismantle Cathal Pendred, and he barely broke a sweat while doing it.

Behind stinging left hand counters, Breese (9-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC) hurt Pendred (17-4-1 MMA, 4-2 UFC) early, then kept on him until a bloodied Pendred dropped to the floor for the last time late in the first frame, prompting referee Leon Roberts to call a halt to the fight at the 4:37 mark of Round 1.

The welterweight bout was part of the preliminary card of today’s UFC Fight Night 76 event at 3Arena in Dublin. It streamed on UFC Fight Pass.

From the opening moments of the bout, Breese seemed to have no trouble finding Pendred with his left hand. Breese seemed to have Pendred’s timing down from the get go, allowing him to hang back and lob one effortless, yet punishing blow after another.

After dropping him with a left early on, Breese kept the pressure on as Pendred retreated toward the fence late in the first. Backing his man into the cage, Breese launched another hard left that found its target, sending Pendred sinking to the floor.

From there, Breese followed up with few perfunctory strikes on the mat until the referee Roberts had seen enough. The TKO finish marked the end of a dominant performance by Breese, who was hardly breathing hard by the time it was over.

Breese remains perfect as a professional with the win, and now has two straight victories in the UFC. Pendred has now lost two in a row.
