GLASGOW, Scotland – Joseph Duffy, Stevie Ray, Joanne Calderwood and Cortney Casey each earned $50,000 bonuses for their performances at Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 72 event.
Duffy and Ray won “Performance of the Night” bonuses, while Calderwood and Casey earned “Fight of the Night” honors.
UFC officials announced the winners at the post-event news conference, which MMAjunkie attended.
“Irish Joe” Duffy (14-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) submitted Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Ivan Jorge (26-5 MMA, 2-2 UFC) in the first round. Duffy, the last man to beat new interim featherweight champion Conor McGregor, improved to 2-0 in the UFC with a pair of first-round finishes.
Ray (18-5 MMA, 2-0 UFC) opened up the main card with a first-round TKO victory over Leonardo Mafra (12-3 MMA, 1-2 UFC), setting his home-country Scotsmen into a frenzy.
Calderwood (10-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) fought short-notice opponent Casey (4-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) on the main card, and the two went to war for 15 minutes. Calderwood took a unanimous decision, but both fighters slugged it out for three rounds.
UFC Fight Night 72 took place at SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland. The main card aired on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass. The card was the UFC’s debut in Scotland.
