DUBLIN – Irish lightweight Norman Parke (20-2-1 MMA, 4-0-1 UFC) could have let himself get too hyped for a fight on near home. Instead, he calmly and decisively dismantled Naoyuki Kotani (33-11-7 MMA, 0-3 UFC).
After stopping the Japanese vet in the second round, “TUF: Smashes” winner Parke jumped into the crowd and then called out inaugural “TUF” winner Diego Sanchez.
The lightweight bout was part of today’s UFC Fight Night 46 main card at The O2 in Dublin. The entire event streamed on UFC Fight Pass.
Parke, from Northern Ireland, secured a second-round TKO at the 3:41 mark of the frame as he hammered away at a cornered Kotani with elbows on the mat. The weapon was one he repeatedly used to batter his opponent, who returned to the UFC on the strength of a 13-fight winning streak on the international circuit.
Kotani looked to take down the fight early and often, but Parke intercepted him in the clinch. By the end of the opening frame, Parke had nearly taken mount and ended the round with more elbows.
A leg-lock attempt provided the only scare for Parke, who reset in the second frame and again took his opponent to the mat before a fight-ending flurry of punches.
Parke gets back to the win column after a draw against “TUF: Brazil 2? winner Leonardo Santos snapped a three-fight UFC winning streak. Kotani remains winless in the octagon after a pair of 2007 appearances ended in losses.
