UFC Fight Night 42 results, photos: Jon Tuck stops Jake Lindsey via heel kick

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Three rounds into a fight he was controlling in every conceivable sense, Jon Tuck seemed content to chip away at Jake Lindsey rather than going full-throttle for the finish.

As it turned out, that victory-by-inches approach was enough to put away Lindsey (9-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC), as a heel strike to the ribs from Tuck (8-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) elicited a tap, bringing a sudden and unusual end to the bout at the 2:47 mark of Round 3.

The lightweight bout was part of today’s UFC Fight Night 42 event at Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, N.M. It aired on FOX Sports 1 following a prelim on UFC Fight Pass and ahead of the main card on FOX Sports 1.

Tuck appeared to have Lindsey hurt several times throughout the bout, from the early moments on. An overhand right by Tuck rocked Lindsey in the first, and each time Lindsey tried to clinch up and buy himself some time to recover, he left himself open to another leg-trip takedown.

In fact, Tuck’s toughest opponent in the fight seemed to be fatigue, as he slowed noticeably as each round wore on. In the third, however, he got off to a fast start with another overhand right followed by another trip takedown, and soon he had seized back mount on a visibly deflated and discouraged Lindsey.

As Tuck attempted to soften him up with heel strikes to the ribs, one apparently caught Lindsey just right, making him wince in pain as he tapped out to the body blow. The brief silence that followed as Tuck jumped up to celebrate his win? That was the Albuquerque crowd, likely still trying to figure out exactly what had just happened.

Tuck gets his first win since November of 2012, thanks to the victory. Lindsey loses for the first time in his pro MMA career.
