UFC Fight Night 41 results: Magnus Cedenblad submits Krzysztof Jotko

BERLIN – Magnus Cedenblad (12-4 MMA, 2-1 UFC) said he wanted to knock out Krzysztof Jotko (14-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC), but he was content earning a submission victory over the previously unbeaten fighter.

The middleweight bout was part of the preliminary card of today’s UFC Fight Night 41 event at O2 World Berlin in Germany. It streamed on UFC Fight Pass.

Aside from an opening flurry of punches from Jotko, the first round was all Cedenblad. The Swedish fighter got the clinch, scored a trip-takedown and spent most of the round in top position delivering a steady stream of ground and pound on his Polish foe. Even when Jotko got back to his feet, Cedenblad quickly took him back down and closed out the round in dominant position.

Cedenblad, though, struggled to get the fight to the mat in the second round, and Jotko made him pay with punches and elbows from the clinch, and he was finally putting together some sustained offense. But midway through the frame, Cedenblad wrapped the hips, took him to the canvas and landed in side control. Jotko ultimately powered his way to a reversal and briefly threatened with a rear-naked choke, but Cedenblad’s slick transition soon followed.

Once he freed himself, the towering Cedenblad locked up a fight-ending guillotine choke and forced the tap-out with just one second remaining in the round.

“I wanted to stand and knock him out,” he said after the fight. “It wasn’t my best performance, but I got the win.”

He’s now won nine of his past 10 fights, and the lone trip-up came to notable Francis Carmont in his UFC debut. Jotko, who earned a win over Bruno Santos in his promotional debut back in December, suffers his first career loss.
