UFC Fight Night 33 results: Krzysztof Jotko outworks Bruno Santos to win debut

BRISBANE, Australia – Krzysztof Jotko didn’t exactly overwhelm Bruno Santos, but the Polish fighter did do enough to take a unanimous decision after three close rounds (29-28, 29-28, 30-27).

The middleweight bout was part of the preliminary card of today’s UFC Fight Night 33 event at Brisbane Entertainment Centre in Australia. It aired on FOX Sports 2 following a single prelim on MMAjunkie and ahead of the main card on FOX Sports 1.

Jotko seemed content to spend much of the fight with his back against the fence circling away from Santos and looking for the chance to land his left hand. That very strike sat Santos down late in the second, but with time running out Jotko was unable to capitalize. Santos rallied in the third, thanks to his ground game, but couldn’t quite sink a submission despite several opportunities. In the end, all three judges saw it for Jotko, who celebrated with a breakdancing display in the center of the Octagon.

“Bruno is a very strong fighter, and for that reason, I wanted to keep my distance and look for the takedown,” Jotko said. “In Round 1, I was searching for better position, and in the second round I felt my strike landed well and was close to finishing the fight. I’m happy to take the win tonight.”

Jotko (14-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) remains unbeaten thanks to the victory in his UFC debut. Santos (13-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) suffers the first loss of his pro career.
