Virgil Zwicker Living the Dream with Plate Full of Mixed Martial Arts

Lavar_Johnson_vs_Virgil_ZwickerVirgil Zwicker loves knockouts. With eight of his 11 wins coming as such, it’s pretty obvious he prefers separating his opponents from their consciousness with strikes.

The aggression that pairs with racking up knockout wins comes from growing up around a tenacious crowd on an Indian reservation, Zwicker says. Luckily for him – and unluckily for his opponents – the fighter has been able to translate that into a career in mixed martial arts.

“It was an aggressive bunch of guys that made me tough early,” Zwicker told MMAWeekly.com when asked to what he most attributes his knockout prowess. “I have redirected that energy and focused it into sports.”

Zwicker says he enjoys the stand-up aspect of the fight game the most, and this likely explains why a majority of his wins have come by knockout. He’s quick, however, to explain that he trains to be well-rounded, too. This is a fact that Zwicker says he’ll look to exploit in his upcoming fight at KSW 25.

The Team Quest fighter has fought in Strikeforce and most recently Bellator. Currently, he splits his time between KSW, Bellator and kickboxing, and Zwicker reveals that his plate is so full of combat sports that there is little room, if any, for UFC aspirations.

“I am living my dream at the moment, traveling the world, doing what I love with the people I love,” he says. “My focus and energy at the moment is in Bellator, KSW, and kickboxing. I want to win both the KSW and Bellator light heavyweight titles, as well as win the WCK kickboxing heavyweight belt. So my plate is full at the moment.

“KSW is the biggest promotion in Europe along with the UFC, so this is a dream come true. The folks at KSW have received us well, and a victory on Saturday will assure my return and championship run for them. Fighting overseas has also relieved me of a lot of personal responsibilities because I can just disconnect and focus on the fight.”

Lack of interest for fighting in the UFC aside, Zwicker says his motivation remains focused on bringing an entertaining show to the Polish fans at Saturday’s KSW 25 card. It’s safe to say he can guarantee a positive reception if he continues his habit of knocking out foes when contested in a ring or cage.

That would be nice, he says.

“Ultimately, I want a fun and exciting fight with a decisive win,” Zwicker concludes. “I will approach this fight with heart, determination, and, like I always do, ready for a war.”
